Key Alkaloids — Quick Reference
Primary Alkaloid
Mitragynine
The most abundant alkaloid in kratom (~66% of alkaloid content). Acts as a partial agonist at mu-opioid receptors at high doses. At lower doses primarily activates adrenergic and serotonin pathways.
Secondary Alkaloid
7-Hydroxymitragynine (7-OH)
Minor constituent (~2%) but significantly more potent at opioid receptors. Isolated 7-OH extracts carry higher dependency risk than whole-leaf preparations. Critical harm reduction consideration.
